Oops!
Yesterday’s story was, it turns out, a lot more complicated than what you read. The friend who had told me the story corrected the essential error: “I would never forget her name --Anne Dodge. Just like I also remember that she drove a tiny convertible Karman Ghia (back in the 1960’s when this was about as sporty as one could get in Detroit!) in which she at times would transport a string bass for some student who needed to get it somewhere. Unfortunately when I finally looked online, I found that she died before I ever tried to find her.”
What I had heard was her remorse that she had never thanked that teacher. Quite clearly I identify with that - deeply.
