Either way you parse it, it’s spot on. Yes, it is his own cuckoo (K. 280). Yes, he, himself, is cuckoo in that he believes you will not get the joke, therefore he conceals it as cleverly as ever a composer could to make you believe that he is telling the truth when, in fact, he is royally pulling your royal leg.
This little nothing is the whole entire point of Tonal Refraction, all directly traceable to the Wolf himself. What, exactly, is that point?
